Basement Flooding Rebate in Mississauga

Up to $7,500 for Mississauga homeowners through the City of Mississauga Basement Flooding Prevention Rebate.

Last verified June 2026

Mississauga homeowners can claim up to $7,500 through the City of Mississauga’s Basement Flooding Prevention Rebate — a city-wide program that replaced the older Foundation Drain Collector Sump Pump Subsidy. It helps pay for sump pumps, backwater valves, downspout disconnection and foundation drain capping. A separate Region of Peel rebate adds up to $1,500 for a sanitary backwater valve, so many Mississauga homes can combine both.

Why Mississauga homes need this

After the severe rainfall and basement flooding across Mississauga in the summer of 2024, the City expanded its rebate to strengthen residential flood protection. Older neighbourhoods with foundation drains tied into the City system, and low-lying areas near the Credit River and the lakeshore, benefit most from sump pumps and backwater valves.

What the rebate covers

Sump pump installation
Backwater valve (stormwater lateral)
Downspout disconnection
Foundation drain (weeping tile) capping
Eligible consulting / CCTV inspection costs

Combined under the up to $7,500 program cap. Per-measure limits may apply — confirm current amounts with City of Mississauga before you start.

Since February 12, 2025, every measure must be PRE-APPROVED by the City before it is installed. If you install first and apply after, the rebate can be refused — this is the single most common reason claims are rejected.

Common questions

How much is the Mississauga basement flooding rebate?

Up to $7,500 through the City’s Basement Flooding Prevention Rebate, plus up to $1,500 from the Region of Peel for a sanitary backwater valve — the two programs are separate and can often be combined.

Do I need pre-approval before starting work?

Yes. Since February 12, 2025, all measures must be pre-approved by the City before installation. Starting work first is the most common reason rebates get rejected.

Who is eligible?

Individual owners (not businesses) of a detached, semi-detached, duplex or townhouse in Mississauga, with taxes and charges up to date, who have not received a City sump pump rebate in the last 10 years.

Is a building permit required?

A permit is required for foundation drain capping and for stormwater-lateral backwater valve installation. Your licensed contractor normally arranges it.

Can I combine the City rebate with the Peel backwater valve rebate?

In many cases yes — the City program covers measures like sump pumps and stormwater-lateral valves, while Peel’s rebate covers the sanitary backwater valve. A licensed contractor can confirm which applies to your home.
