The Ontario Window & Door Rebate, Explained

Short version: $100 per opening, minimum 3 windows or 1 door, ENERGY STAR® required, no cap on the number of openings. Here are the rules in full, and how it fits the bigger program.

The rebate in one box

  • $100 per rough opening (window or door)
  • • Minimum 3 windows or 1 door
  • No maximum number of openings
  • • Every unit must be ENERGY STAR® certified
  • • Part of the bundled-assessment path (usually claimed with another upgrade)

How the math works

Count every window and every door you're replacing — that's your opening count. Multiply by $100. Ten windows plus two doors is twelve openings, or $1,200. There's no ceiling on openings, so larger projects scale linearly. Want it netted against cost? The calculator does both.

Where it fits

Windows sit inside Ontario's Home Renovation Savings program, alongside heat pumps, insulation, and solar. Because the program rewards whole-home work, the smartest move is usually to bundle — see how stacking works and the 3-or-1 minimum in detail.

Common questions

How much is the Ontario window rebate?

$100 per rough opening — each window and each door counts as one opening, with no maximum. Ten windows and two doors is twelve openings, or $1,200.

What’s the minimum to qualify?

At least 3 windows or 1 door. Below that threshold the project isn’t eligible.

Do the windows have to be ENERGY STAR®?

Yes — every window and door must be ENERGY STAR® certified for the climate zone, or it won’t qualify. Confirm certification before purchase.

Can I claim windows on their own?

Windows and doors are in the bundled-assessment path, so they’re typically claimed alongside at least one other eligible upgrade rather than entirely standalone. A participating contractor confirms how your project qualifies.
