The rule in plain English
To qualify for the Ontario window and door rebate, you must replace at least:
- • 3 windows, OR
- • 1 door, OR
- • Any project that includes at least 1 door (a door alone satisfies the minimum — extra windows just add $100 each)
You get $100 per rough opening. There's no maximum — if you replace 25 windows, you get $2,500.
What counts as an “opening”?
A rough opening is the structural hole in your wall that holds a window or door. Count each physical opening:

Two panes in the same frame = still 1 opening

Additional requirements
Meeting the minimum is just step one. Other requirements:

All windows and doors must be ENERGY STAR certified. Check the product sticker or the manufacturer's documentation.
Professional installation
Windows run through the bundled assessment path — a registered energy advisor assesses before and after, and the work is professionally installed. DIY installation doesn't qualify.
Part of bundled path
Windows are part of the bundled assessment path. You need at least one other upgrade (insulation or air sealing) AND a home energy assessment before and after.
Assessment before work
Do not start installation before the pre-retrofit assessment and program approval — work started early is not eligible under the published rules.
Bundling to maximize
Windows alone hit their cap at $100 per opening. But when bundled with insulation + air sealing under the assessment path, you can reach up to $7,700 total. A realistic example:

Honest budgeting note: the pre + post assessment visits typically run about $900 + HST at market rates (confirmed with a licensed energy advisor org, Aug 2026), and the $600 rebate is paid after you complete the program — so plan for roughly $400 out of pocket on the assessments themselves.

What's the minimum for the Ontario window rebate?

Can I combine windows and doors to reach the minimum?
You do not need to “reach 3” by combining: a single door (or skylight, or sliding door) already satisfies the minimum on its own. So 1 window + 1 door qualifies (the door meets the minimum; you are paid $100 for each of the 2 openings). Only windows-only projects need at least 3 windows — 2 windows with no door do not qualify.
How much is the window rebate per opening?
