Window Rebate Ontario 2026: 3 Windows or 1 Door?
Last reviewed: April 17, 2026
Quick answer
Minimum 3 windows OR 1 door qualifies. Any combination of 3+ openings works. Each opening = $100 rebate. All must be ENERGY STAR certified.
The rule in plain English
To qualify for the Ontario window and door rebate, you must replace at least:
- • 3 windows, OR
- • 1 door, OR
- • Any combination adding up to 3+ openings
You get $100 per rough opening. There's no maximum — if you replace 25 windows, you get $2,500.
What counts as an “opening”?
A rough opening is the structural hole in your wall that holds a window or door. Count each physical opening:
1 standard window
Single window pane or sliding window
1 opening
1 double window
Two panes in the same frame = still 1 opening
1 opening
1 bay window (3 sections)
The entire bay unit fills 1 rough opening
1 opening
1 patio / sliding door
Even if it's "double-wide"
1 opening
1 entry door
Front door, back door, side door each count separately
1 opening
1 skylight
Roof openings also count
1 opening

Additional requirements
Meeting the minimum is just step one. Other requirements:
ENERGY STAR certified
All windows and doors must be ENERGY STAR certified. Check the product sticker or the manufacturer's documentation.
Participating contractor
Installation by a registered HVAC/windows contractor participating in HRS. DIY installation doesn't qualify.
Part of bundled path
Windows are part of the bundled assessment path. You need at least one other upgrade (insulation or air sealing) AND a home energy assessment before and after.
Pre-approval required
As with all HRS upgrades, installation can't begin until pre-approval is received.
Bundling to maximize
Windows alone hit their cap at $100 per opening. But when bundled with insulation + air sealing under the assessment path, you can reach up to $7,700 total. A realistic example:

What's the minimum for the Ontario window rebate?
You need to replace at least 3 windows OR 1 door to qualify for the window/door rebate through HRS. Fewer than 3 windows without a door = not eligible.
Can I combine windows and doors to reach the minimum?
Yes. Any combination of 3+ openings (windows or doors) qualifies. For example: 2 windows + 1 door = 3 openings = eligible. 1 window + 1 door = 2 openings = not eligible.
How much is the window rebate per opening?
$100 per rough opening. 10 windows = $1,000 rebate. 10 windows + 2 doors = $1,200 rebate. All must be ENERGY STAR certified and installed by a participating contractor.
